You wake up one morning and find the following email in your Inbox: "make $3,300 a day while you sleep with this amazing product..." You're intrigued. Who wouldn't be? You open the email and discover that it requires an "initial" investment of $97. You're thinking - well, $97 is not that much money, and the potential here is huge... plus - they GUARANTEE it! You go ahead and buy it just to discover that - well - it doesn't quite work that way. There's a bunch of stuff you need to do before getting to that $3,300 a day while you sleep.

Sounds familiar?

If you've been toying with the idea of making money on the Internet, or have actually tried it, you know what I'm talking about. There are so many aspects to Internet Marketing, and so many products out there for each and every aspect, that it's really overwhelming when you're just starting out. You keep getting emails about people getting rich overnight and finding these websites with shiny headers promising to make you an overnight millionaire, and it's really tempting. You think - why not me?

Or you may have even tried making money on the Internet and discovered that it's not that simple. You get the feeling that everyone else is striking it rich but you. And you're thinking - what do they have that I don't?

If you think anybody's success on the Internet happened overnight, think again. If you think there are people out there who became millionaires without paying their dues, think again. Chances are, they all had many months of frustration and failure before striking it rich. Chances are, they all had to educate themselves about product creation, web site design, affiliate programs, email marketing, SEO, analyzing statistics, creating and optimizing PPC Campaigns, and a million other different things. Chances are, they all had many trials and errors and they all had to learn from past mistakes and failures.

So, if you're thinking about making money on the Internet, here are a few things to consider:

1. Spend a good deal of time just educating yourself on the different aspects of Internet Marketing. Don't make any decision or start any new ventures until you feel you have a pretty good understanding of the basics.

2. Make a list of all the different ways you know of to make money on the internet, such as - having your own product, promoting affiliate programs, promoting a service, MLM, etc.

3. For each opportunity, figure out what you would have to do in order to develop and promote it: would you have to create a website or a blog, would you be doing email marketing, PPC campaigns, classified ads, social networking, etc.

4. Think about your personality and your likes and dislikes, and make a decision about what kind of business you would like to have. For example: a. if you like writing, you might want to create a blog or develop a website, and promote affiliate products; b. if you're good at creating graphics you might want to create a product with custom made images that you sell to others; c. if you like social networking you can promote products directly without a website or a blog;

5. If you think you're going to need a website or a landing page, look into what it would take for you to have one. If you don't already have these skills - would you like to learn them or would you prefer to outsource these tasks?

6. If you prefer to outsource, do some research on the different tasks you would need to outsource and have a very specific idea of what you want to have done - for example - website design, copywriting, logo, programming, etc.

7. Do not buy any product in anticipation of needing it later, because chances are that you'll find something better later and will never use that first one.

8. If you buy a product, make sure you get all the benefits from it before moving on to the next one. Don't just jump from one product to another.

9. Choose a topic for your website, blog or product that you know something about and preferably have some passion for - it will sustain you through the tough times.

10. Last but not least - and I'm sure you've heard it before many times - don't believe everything you read on the Internet!

Best of luck in whatever endeavor you choose!
